This Advent Season was a glorious time at WPC!  Never before do I recall such beautiful music in so many different forms.   As we celebrated the 4 Sundays, the spoken words took on deeper meanings for many of us.  Worship and Music Committee is grateful to all who so willingly and creatively participated!

In this season, we experienced a lovely cellist, a delightful trombonist, 2 professional soloists in Mac Atkinson and his fiancée, Heather Morrison, who absolutely brought the house down in their MESSIAH selections; our own precious Catherine Boyd AND DeQuan LaSane as Director of it all…organist, pianist and soloist!  As a multitalented, multitasking musician DeQuan lifts our worship services to more meaningful levels.  Coupled with Josie Holler’s gifts of words and creativity, we have experienced the arrival of the child in new ways.

The Children’s Musical under the direction of Mary Alice Bogue was, once again, a highlight of Advent.  The voices are subtly trained, and it is an amazing experience as she and Laura Hundley guide them through the Christmas story.  They’re well-prepared and we often call Miss Mary Alice “the child whisperer.”

This year we had the distinct pleasure of hosting the Kingstree Community Cantata in our sanctuary with a live nativity scene on the grounds.   Under DeQuan’s leadership, 28 voices from the local churches came together with an orchestra of 10 and performed “Jesus! The Advent of Messiah.” He guided the evening with ease and professionalism and brought out the very best in each singer. It was, indeed, a night to remember!

The Christmas Eve service found us humbled by another beautiful evening of song and words.  Josie put together what for many of us was the most meaningful Lessons and Carols ever.  She took the timeless scripture readings and coupled them with more modern poetry and interpretations.  The evening touched many hearts.

This year I decided to “type cast” the 4 Advent readers; that technique made things simple.  I did an outstanding job…….don’t you agree?
